  • A classic that shows what all the fuss is about...

Having grown up in the Boston area in the 1970's and all that music that burst through, you'd likely hear those bluesy, New Orleans uptempo Bonnie Raitt songs at parties during those years as the Vietnam war was ending. Hardly ever "commerical" Bonnie's early 3 gems stood out even though she was considered a "female" singer/guitarist in a male dominated scene and such fought for all her kudos. Thankfully I had friends that listened to "Give it Up" and it really changed my outlook on music and is considered one of those classic collections from the early 70's that still makes you smile remembering back to those carefree days putting an album on. Unique still to this day as she mixed up some interesting styles and all together forms such a great cool hybrid of what was to come along side Little Feat, Maria Mulduar, Leon Redbone, so many talents that mixed styles. From blues to rock infused to ballads, Bonnie Raitt to this day continues to find and deliver first class gems of American music and more, her way! Start to finish this is a recorded classic of down home, unpredentious. real music... Love has no Pride, Nothing seems to matter, Give it up, I know, so much to love about this one...

I bought this album after the first time I heard Bonnie Raitt live in New Orleans on the Riverboat. Brings back such memories. Wish I still had the vinyl, I wore that album out. On iTunes this remastered version is thinner....still, it's my favorite and I still love it!!
  • not the same as '72 vinyl issue

This doesnt sound like the vinyl issue from '72. I wore that album out and know every note-still cool, but its not the same.

Years before the multiple Grammy's and the platinum records, Bonnie quietly made brillant records like this one, while a small but devoted fan base listened. Considering how big that fan base eventually (and deservedly) became, it's astonishing to see how few reviews this world class artist has gotten on itunes...even for her biggest records. Like Aretha, Bonnie is one of the greatest singers of all time, and this is one of her classics.

This remains for me the quintessential Bonnie Raitt album. Great songs that range from heartfelt to ball-busting. Been listening to this for over 30 years, and it has only improved with age.
